That’s right.

After you have completed this course and obtained a pass grade of 80% or above on your first attempt then you are qualified to work with our proofreading partner as a freelance proofreader. You can then apply your skills anywhere between a few hours a week, right through to 40+ hours per week.

Okay, so what do I do?

You’ll need to complete our online training programme that has been specifically designed for learning everything you need to know for how to proofread and edit like a pro.

The course will take approximately 30 hours to complete, but can take a lot less. It all comes down to how much you already know, but our formal process ensures that nothing is missed. You will also have to take a test at the end of course, which will verify your newly learnt skills. The course costs £150, which represents great value for money. You can see the complete course breakdown here.

How long would it then take to start proofreading?

Once you pass the course, you will be invited to join the freelance proofreading team at Proofed Inc. There you will be taken through a short induction process to gather your proofreading and editing preferences, you’ll get to know the team, and then you will be able to start proofreading and editing right away.

How much can I expect to earn as a professional proofreader at Proofed Inc.?

As work at Proofed Inc. is paid according to document type, word count, and turnaround time,  it’s not possible to give exact hourly rates. However, as a novice proofreader, we would expect you to be able to proofread around 2,000 words an hour, which would earn you around £12–15. Once you have gained more experience and are faster at proofreading, you can earn around £16–20 an hour. On average, our most regular proofreaders earn around £1,000 a month.

How long will it take me to earn back the price of the course?

We estimate that once you have proofread 30,000 words, you will have earned back the full cost of the course.

Do I have to commit to weekly hours?

No. All proofreaders at Proofed Inc. are freelance, which means that you are completely free to choose the hours you wish to work. Our helpful admin team will be happy to give you tips and tricks about the months and weekly times in which there is a lot of work available so you can plan your schedule accordingly.

We also regularly run bonus schemes for freelancers who can commit to certain days during our busy periods, which is a great way to earn some extra cash on top of your regular proofreading pay.
